ADA SERVICE

Brockton Area Transit Authority provides ADA paratransit service for people with disabilities. This service provides a shared-ride, door-to-door van transportation for individuals with disabilities that prevent them from riding the fixed route bus service. BAT provides paratransit service throughout the Brockton area within ¾ mile of a fixed route. The paratransit service runs on all days that the fixed-route bus service operates.

How to Apply

Anyone, regardless of age, who by reason of physical or developmental disability is unable to ride a regular bat bus is eligible for DIAL-A-BAT. However, you will need to acquire an ADA pass. For more information call BAT at 508-638-5920

You can pick up an application in person at the BAT customer service office inside the BAT Centre at 10 Commercial St. Brockton, MA 02302.  You can also get an application mailed out to you by calling 508-638-5920.

Once the application is received, Part A is to be completed by you and Part B is to be completed by your physician or a licensed Agency Professional.  After both are complete, please mail to BAT, 155 Court St. Brockton, MA 02302.  All original signatures are required to be considered complete.

Once a completed application is received, it will be reveiwed and a decision on your eligibility will be made within 21 days.  A letter will be sent to the address provided on the application.  If your eligibility determination is not made within 21 days of completing the application process, you will be able to use DIAL-A-BAT until a determination is made. If you’re visiting the Brockton area and have a disability that prevents you from using the bus, under the ADA you can use DIAL-A-BAT for up to 21 days in a 12-month period.  Please call the Customer Service Navigator at     508-638-5920 for more information.

DIAL-A-BAT will make reasonable modifications/accommodations for any disabled person as prescribed by the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990.

BAT honors all reasonable requests for assistance. These may include (but are not limited to):
• Deploying kneelers, ramps, or bridge plates to board or exit vehicles
• Providing assistance to navigate stations
• Providing assistance to find a seat
• Buying tickets or passes at fare boxes and fare vending machines
• Paying your fare
• If you experience a barrier to accessing a BAT program or service, you may submit a request for a reasonable modification. Call 508-638-5920 Please provide as many details as possible about your issue.
BAT will accommodate requests provided that:
• Fundamental nature of the service, program or activity is not altered, or
• It does not cause a direct threat to the health or safety of others, or
• It does not result in an undue financial and administrative burden, or
• The requestor would not be able to fully use the service provided by BAT without the modification.
